Joe Biden invoked a saying by Chinese Communist dictator Mao Zedong during a speech calling for more women to enter America’s dying workforce.
Yes, really.
“There’s a saying…’Women hold up half the world,’” Biden remarked during his Wednesday speech at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. “It’s an absolutely stupid position not to make sure they represent at least half of what we do.”
That saying originates from Chairman Mao’s Great Leap Forward proclamation that “Women hold up half the sky”, referring to women as an important resource for China’s communist revolution.
“’Women Hold Up Half The Sky,’ is a proclamation made by Mao Zedong, mainly to prove that women are a resource that ought to be deployed outside of the homes into the professional fields. It is such a powerful statement that affirms that women can do just as much as men can,” said Tan Tze Kiat, chief executive officer of BBDO China.
Biden’s speech appealing to women to join the labor force comes after a disastrous April jobs report showing that America only gained 266,000 jobs in the first quarter, far short of Biden’s goal of 1 million.
Biden’s invocation of Chinese Communist slogans is unsurprising given his prostration to the Chinese Communist Party leading up to and since he took the White House.
