What we do have is an election that was surrounded by hacking.” Hillary Clinton’s campaign has offered help, but Clinton’s own lead attorney confessed that a recount won’t likely lead to any changes in the outcome of he election. Lacking documentation of any kind, opponents of Stein on both sides of the aisle have labelled this movement a “scam” based on the following factors:
1) NO EVIDENCE OF FRAUD EXISTS: There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the election results were unreliable or inaccurate. The entire premise for this recount is false; there is nothing out there to suggest any voting machines were hacked. Donald Trump’s advantage in electronic voting had to do with community demographics and Michigan’s voting was all done on paper ballots. Why were pre-election polls so far off the mark? They were simply wrong and skewed in favor of Hillary Clinton supporters.
2) MO’ MONEY: When Stein first announced this endeavor, her fundraising goal was 2.5 million dollars. This goal was easily surpassed in less than 48 hours through an online donation link on her website. After that goal was exceeded, Stein raised the goal amount to 4.5 million dollars. As of today, she has raised over 6 million dollars and has once again raised the target goal to a whopping 10 million. That’s a boatload of money for the Green Party, considering Jill Stein’s entire presidential bid only raised $3,509,477 from donors.
3) NO GUARANTEES: Those critical of this effort are quick to point out that Stein admits there is no guarantee that the money raised will go towards a recount of the votes. “We cannot guarantee a recount will happen in any of these states,” Stein’s Website states, “We can only pledge we will demand recounts in those states.” In fact, Pennsylvania has already shut down her efforts because the deadline to file was on November 21st. Despite missing the deadline, Stein has issued a legal challenge to the state.
4) ELECTION INTEGRITY EFFORTS? Jill Stein is vague when questioned about what will happen to the money raised if not utilized for its stated purpose. “If we raise more than what’s needed, the surplus will also go toward election integrity efforts and to promote voting system reform. This is what we did with our surplus in 2004,” Stein acknowledged. She has not gone into specifics about what actions would take place in these “election integrity efforts”. No one seems to know exactly what that means or entails.
5) THE VOTE TOTALS WEREN’T THAT CLOSE: A person has better mathematical odds of winning the lottery than Stein has of overturning the election results. In Wisconsin, Trump leads Clinton by 22,177 votes. In Michigan, he has a lead of 10,704 votes, and in Pennsylvania, he’s up by 70,638 votes. Not blowout wins for President Elect Trump, but not close enough to warrant a recount. There is no way that the counts are off by such wide margins.
Jill Stein received less than 1 percent of the vote and admitted that the election results are unlikely to change. Most reasonable people would deduce that the only gain she has in this fruitless effort is financial. Her own running mate, Ajamu Baraka told CNN that he was “not in favor of the recount” and that the optics of this undertaking do not look good. Imagine what great feats charities could accomplish with 6.8 million dollars, especially during the holiday season. Instead, people are being bamboozled into donating to the Green Party by Jill Stein’s imaginary controversy over votes by praying on the emotions of disappointed Clinton supporters. Politically and ethically, Stein lacks any standing to claim she has been harmed by ballot irregularities or counting errors. It’s time for Jill Stein to move forward instead of thrusting herself into the spotlight for attention and financial gain.
