More Psychiatry and More Psychiatric Medications Means More Mass Shootings

In late September 2016, a few days after Nikolas Cruz turned 18 and became old enough to buy a gun, the Department of Children and Families sent one or more investigators to Cruz’s home. The Department had been alerted by posts on Snapchat where the young man talked crazily about cutting himself and asked for help in getting a gun.

Among the many missed opportunities widely discussed in the media, here is one on the local level where the Department of Children and Families actually went to his home to investigate. The department intended to evaluate for “possible detainment under the Baker Act, which allows authorities to hold individuals against their will for up to 72 hours.”
