Thursday’s mass shooting in Annapolis has broadcaster Tom Brokaw calling for a “new crusade” against firearms.
The iconic face of NBC Nightly News took to social media Friday morning to condemn the shotgun massacre at the Capital Gazette, which killed five and wounded multiple others.
“The newsroom shooting, like all others this year makes me physically ill. our dear friend carl hiaasen lost his brother,” Mr. Brokaw tweeted. “It’s a shameful commentary. ‘Got a problem? Get a gun.’ Guns aren’t going away but their homocidal use requires a new crusade.”
Anne Arundel County Chief Timothy Altomare told reporters Friday that suspect Jarrod W. Ramos “was there to kill as many people as he could kill.”
The 38-year-old — who unsuccessfully sued the newspaper for defamation in 2012 — was arrested Thursday and charged with five counts of first-degree murder.
