Theta Network, the leading decentralized video delivery platform will celebrate the landing of the Perseverance rover on Mars on February 18 with the minting of special collectible and rare NASA-themed non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its live streaming site Theta.tv, as per a release shared with CryptoSlate.
The coverage, starting at 2:15 pm EST will mark history in the making, and Theta.tv will be awarding special NFTs to active participants in the chat during the Livestream.
NFTs are cryptographic representations of tangible or intangible items on the blockchain. They can verify can prove both the uniqueness and ownership of any certain asset, with major use cases of today ranging from digital art to in-game collectibles.
Theta is making its presence felt in that space. The NASA-themed NFTs will feature a rare collection of one Badge and one Emote related to the mission of the Perseverance rover and the Ingenuity Helicopter, which if successfully landed might become the first-ever powered flight on another planet.
The landing is part of the ambitious Mars 2020 Mission, which aims to seek signs of ancient life and collect samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and soil) for a possible return to Earth on future missions.
How Theta Network became a part of NASA
Theta Network is one of NASA TV’s official streaming partners since April 2019 and has been streaming the latest exciting events such as the SpaceX/Falcon 9 rocket launch this past Spring.
This time, the platform will live stream and celebrate the historical event by minting the special collection of NFT in their recently integrated NFT ecosystem, allowing viewers to receive the emotes and badges directly on their Theta.tv accounts while enjoying the stream.
“We’ve been collaborating with THETA to carry NASA broadcasts for almost two years now,” said Brittany Brown, Director of Digital Communications at NASA, in a statement. She added, “the Mars landing live stream will be available February 18th on THETA alongside other streaming platforms like YouTube and Facebook.”
Kyle Laffey, Head of Partnerships at Theta Labs, said of the launch:
“We’re super excited to be offering these rare NFT collectibles to celebrate NASA’s landing on Mars. Our audience goes wild for NASA TV content and these rare mission-themed NFT collectibles are a perfect fit to our blockchain streaming & video platform.”
The Mars project is part of Theta’s broader NFT ecosystem that allows streamers and content creators to easily mint their own digital collectibles, increasing their earnings and bringing NFT purchasing power to everyone.
