Democrats in the House of Representatives have introduced legislation that would prevent any federal funds being allocated to any federal entity to honor or commemorate “certain former presidents” who “have been twice impeached by the House,” including prohibiting such a “former president” from being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
There is only one president who has been “twice impeached” by the House of Representatives — Donald J. Trump. He was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions.
The bill, H.R. 484, the “No Glory for Hate Act,” is sponsored by Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), along with 13 Democratic co-sponsors.
The legislation states that no federal funds may be used to “create or display any symbol, monument, or statue commemorating any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives on or before the date of enactment of this Act ….”
In addition, no federal funds to “name, designate, or redesignate a Federal building or Federal land after, or in commemoration of, any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives ….
No federal funds to “provide retirement, clerical assistants, and free mailing privileges” to “any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives….” No benefit except Secret Service protection.
Also, “the Secretary of Defense shall not approve a determination of eligibility for interment or inurnment in Arlington National Cemetery made by the Secretary of the Army that permits the interment or inurnment in Arlington National Cemetery of any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives….”
