Currently the center of multiple major scandals, New York’s Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo is being called out for forcing homes for people with developmental disabilities to accept COVID-positive patients.

After a similar executive order placing COVID-positive patients into nursing homes resulted in articles of impeachment being filed against him, Cuomo was hit with a slew of sexual harassment claims.

Now, over 500 deaths could be attributed to the governor’s April 10 order requiring residential group homes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to accept people known to have COVID.

That order is still active to this day, while the executive order dealing with nursing homes has been terminated.

A June study published by the Disability and Health Journal revealed people with IDD, especially those living in congregate settings, are at a higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19.

On Monday, the New York Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) announced 552 residents at IDD homes have died of COVID-19 so far.

Likely trying to appear as if they now care for people with disabilities living in group homes, New York has prioritized them for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
