AMD could announce its Navi-based version. The AMD Navi 12, a graphic processing unit (GPU), was first introduced exclusively for Apple Macbook Pro devices. An AMD GPU kernel driver update announcement (via Tom’s Hardware) that listed specific fixes for the Linux environment released the news. According to PC Gamer, it could be the first crypto mining-related specific processor launched by the company; the latest version of the card lacks video outputs.

Many hope this new development can free up the odd graphics card here and there for US gamers. The exclusive crypto mining AMD GPU’s possible release comes as Nvidia recently launched a processor to mine ETH.

The ‘Handle new NV12 SKU’ detail in the note refers to a new version of the Navi 12 GPU that has only seen the light of day in the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M (entirely for Apple) and Radeon Pro V520 cards (for pro rendering).

Established Candidate

Navi 12 GPU may not back VCN (video core next), a requirement for PC gaming purposes, further making it an appropriate candidate for crypto mining. That makes the card essentially a dumb GPU with no output ability and an ideal crypto-mining option. The report suggests that the card is expected to have the capability to mine Ethereum (ETH).
